The name Greater London has been used for some time but was only officially recognised in 1965. Technically it is not a city as this is something granted by the Crown, though it does contain both the City of London, the City of Westminster and another 31 London boroughs. Greater London is the area generally referred to by people across the world as London, the capital of the UK and has a population of around 7.5 million.

Greater London is twinned with (or is a sister city of) Moscow, New York, Berlin, Beijing, Paris and Tokyo.
